Hypnotherapy

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring altered state of awareness and consciousness. This altered state, the trance state, is pleasant and extremely relaxing.  We naturally enter into a hypnotic state many times a day; when we are totally engrossed in a book or fully absorbed in a TV program oblivious to anything around us. Whilst in the trance state you are in full control at all times and will not be made to do anything against your will.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis helping you to make positive changes and live a happier, more fulfilling life.

How can hypnotherapy help?

Hypnotherapy can help with many issues in life from stress and anxiety, phobias and habits to weight control and more. Hypnotherapy works by helping you to change the way you think, feel and behave enabling you to live a happier more fulfilling life. All you need is to be willing to make a positive change and with the help of the hypnotherapist these changes can be made. The type of therapy I offer is goal-focused so following a discussion about what you would like to achieve I then help you change any thoughts, feeling or behaviours that are holding you back.  These goals will be realistic and with your co-operation, achievable.  I will help provide you with the tools and strategies that can also be used in the future, allowing you to cope with the stresses and strains of modern-day life.  Self-hypnosis is one of these skills, something I use myself on a daily basis that I hope my clients will learn to benefit from too.

What will a hypnotherapy session be like?

The first and most important part is discussing exactly what it is you want to achieve and then together working out what changes you need to make.  A full case history will be taken in order to ensure all areas have been covered. A treatment plan will then be discussed covering desired outcomes, number and frequency of sessions that maybe required . The process of hypnosis will be explained to you and any questions or concerns you have will be addressed.  You will have the choice of sitting or lying down while hypnosis is induced.  This can be a very pleasant feeling of deep relaxation, a bit like drifting off to sleep.  Your conscious mind will also relax allowing your unconscious mind, where all your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are stored, to be more accepting of positive suggestions.  These positive suggestions will have been agreed on during the therapy session. Tasks will be set to be completed between sessions.

Length and number of sessions

The first session will be longer allowing time for the case history - 2 hours.  Further sessions allow 1.5 hours.

The number of sessions depends on the presenting issue but on average 3-5 sessions are needed.

For further information take advantage of a 30 minute free initial consultation.  This will enable us to establish what hypnotherapy can do to help you.  There is no obligation.
